The act of writing is, like so many other human activities that are inherently worthwhile, deeply contradictory. In essence it is a strange blend of hubris and neediness. We who find ourselves compelled to put words to paper, digital or otherwise, suffer from the delusions of grandeur that anyone, even our future selves, will have any interest in reading our scribblings. At the same time, we quail at the ever present threat of Schrödinger’s popularity, where we write and publish and no one cares, confirming we truly are nothing more than motes of dust, insignificant wretches as the spheres of existence grind on mercilessly around us.
